Fashion Challenge - Watercolor Skirt

I think you can probably tell that I'm all about the features here on WWEPW - it's definitely the teacher-in-me coming out - and my favorites are those to which readers can contribute. SO!

I present to you WWEPW's first Fashion Challenge! Here's how it works: I'll post a photo of an article of clothing worn by Emma on the show. Your job is to create a look around that garment. Think of it as Project Runway without any actual sewing. You'll have 2 days to create your look.

All of the entries will appear in an upcoming post, and I'll choose my favorite 3 looks. The creators of the top 3 looks will be treated to an iTune of their choice, on me. It's my way of saying thank you for reading and enjoying this blog.

How about it? Are you up for the challenge?

The first Fashion Challenge item is:

The J.Crew Watercolor Skirt

We've seen this on Emma in "Ballad," with a simple coral short-sleeved sweater, and in "Mattress," with the Insane Yellow Blouse. Now let's see what you can do with it.

To create your look, feel free to download this image directly to your computer and make your own photo collage. You can email me your finished look at emmapillsbury at gmail dot com.

Or, you can mosey on over to Polyvore to create a set with this skirt, found here. Through Polyvore, you can send your look directly to me. You can find me on Polyvore here:

What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear on Polyvore

You have until Tuesday, February 2 at 6pm EST to create your look.
I'll post and announce the winners the following day. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Would Emma Wear It? - Milly

Lou Eyrich, Glee's Costume Designer, has mentioned in the past that she loves to shop Milly for Emma's looks. I love seeing this brand show up frequently in her clothes. It's fresh and modern, with just the right amount of 60s inspiration to satisfy the Betty-Crocker-girl in me.

I came across three new Milly pieces that I'd love to see on Emma.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this Milly sweater or the J.Crew skirt on Emma in the future. Would you put a blouse under the sweater or leave it plain?

I just love this Milly dress. I can see the ruffled neckline poking out from the cardi, and the skirt just screams out for those J.Crew Penelope Mary Jane pumps.

Another adorable dress by Milly.

Which cardi would you pair it with, or could you see Emma wearing the dress on its own?

Match Game - Purple Trench vs. Pink & Yellow

The results are in from our last Match Game and it looks like the bow on the yellow skirt clinched the win for that set. Dina's got some more really great looks coming up in future matches, so I'd better get into fighting shape for her sets!

For this match, Emma created a look featuring a purple trenchcoat, crisp white blouse, and pleated print skirt. I would throw a Veruca Salt-quality tantrum in public to own this outfit.

Channeling Emma - Nicolle

Regular reader and commenter Nicolle writes: "When I first started watching Glee I was immediately infatuated with Emma's wardrobe! My personal style is so similar to hers so I love watching the show to get some inspiration."

I'll say! Nicolle is absolutely darling in every single one of these outfits! Take a look!

Nicolle calls this her "pre-decontamination-shower look." Love it! Her skirt and blouse are by Tommy Hilfiger, and the green cardigan is by Joe Fresh. She's even wearing the exact vintage owl sweater guard from "Showmance!" That's what I call dedication, folks.

Inspired by Emma's post-decontamination-shower outfit from "The Rhodes Not Taken," Nicolle pairs the Honeyed Peplum Skirt by Leifsdottir with a bow-front blouse from H&M and a military cardi by Kersh. I actually like Nicolle's inspiration look better than the original! (Don't tell Lou...)

YES! I was so glad when Nicolle told me she acquired the spring green Milly sweater from "Showmance" because I knew it would look fantastic on her...and it certainly does!

Raise your hand if you want to see more of Nicolle's looks in the future...I know I do. Thanks, Nicolle, for sharing your fabulous Emma-inspired style with us!

Costume Designers Guild Awards Nomination

Congratulations, Lou Eyrich!

Today the nominees for the 12th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards were announced, and Lou Eyrich was nominated in the category of "Outstanding Contemporary Television Series."

Lou Eyrich makes a critical contribution to the success of Glee. In every episode, she delivers a consistent look for every cast member, and truly enhances every character through her work. Glee doesn't have a small cast, and her choices are always spot on. Eyrich gives each character a signature style, and creates successful stage pieces for performances, as well. I can't think of another costume designer on television right now who's doing that!

Lou Eyrich's costume design for Glee is precise, modern, and unfailing. I'm thrilled to see that she's been recognized by the Costume Designers Guild for her excellent work.

From the bottoms of my Penelope Mary Janes, best wishes to Lou Eyrich for her CDG Awards nomination!

Good luck Lou! We're rooting for you!

Would Emma Wear It? - Dresses

Emma doesn't wear dresses very often. We've seen her in the Nanette Lepore Sunny Day Dress and...that's about it. Although Emma is all about the separates, I don't see why we shouldn't see her in dresses more often, with cute cardis draped over her shoulders and excellent jewelry.

I can see how this type of look could end up making her look more "Mad Men" than she should, but I'd love to see Lou Eyrich expertly "dress" Emma.

Jayma Mays and the Glee Cast at the 2009 SAG Awards

And the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series goes to...

Glee!

Congratulations to the entire cast!

Next time try to remember to personally thank me.

Let's move on to the most important thing about last night, the fashion. Where the Golden Globes fashion seemed muted and subdued, the SAG Awards were all about color. Starting, of course, with Jayma Mays:

Love the color. Love the blue beaded waistline and blue earrings against the tomato-red of the dress. The bodice of that dress looks a bit too stiff, though.

Hair and makeup are fabulous. She's always glowing.

Both Jayma and Jessalyn Gilsig look gorgeous in this picture. I want to hate them. I really do. But I can't. Speaking of Jessalyn...

GOR.GEOUS. Everything that was wrong about her Golden Globes dress is right with this gown. That is how you pose a mermaid dress, sister. Work it.

I love that people didn't overdo it with the jewelry. No one got out of control with the borrowed bling, which I thought was perfect for this event. Lea Michele may be getting all the attention in the press for her dress, but for me, Jessalyn really stole the spotlight. Still, Lea's Catherine Malandrino dress was pretty amazing.

When I first saw her I was all, "Well, she may be at the SAGs but she definitely doesn't have the sags." Way to put the girls out there, honey! If I were 24 and had her figure, I'd show up naked.

Stunning. She has the best hair in Hollywood, if you ask me. I don't know if they're extensions, and I don't care, her hair is killer. (I love what Tom & Lorenzo of Project Rungay had to say about her look.)

Dianna Agron is wearing Edition by Georges Chakra.

Just beautiful.

Finally! A red carpet photo of the gorgeous Amber Riley! As a gown, this dress would be just so-so, but this length and silhouette are absolutely perfect on her.

Jane Lynch looks beautiful in a rich royal blue Ali Rahimi gown.

Naya Rivera's hair and skin looks spectacular against the soft buttery yellow of her gown. Heather Morris looks so young and fresh in daffodil yellow ruffles.

I have to be honest, I don't love this dress. Jenna Ushkowitz looked amazing in yellow at the Golden Globes, but this dress looks like something I could buy off the rack at Macy's. Not crazy about her eye makeup, either. Her hair looks beautiful.

Great smiles.

Iqbal! Iqbal! Iqbal!

Let's check out what the other guys were wearing.

Handsome doesn't even begin to describe Cory Monteith. If I weren't old enough to be his mother, I'd be all, "OMGHOTTIEEEEEEEEEE!!!!1111!!!!" right now.

Cory's jacket has some interesting stitching on the lapel. I kinda like it.

YES! Josh Sussman! I love this kid. I just want to bounce my hand off his hair.

There's my favorite guy, Chris Colfer, looking dapper as can be.

Is Mark Salling wearing Ryan Murphy's suit from the Golden Globes? Different lapels, but close.

Cute!

Nice to see Harry Shum getting some Red Carpet attention...

...as well as Dijon Talton.

On the left: fashion DON'T.

Oh, Justin. Justin, Justin, Justin.

Match Game - Snowscape Set vs. Yellow & Teal

WOW! I am so excited by the number of people who sent me their Polyvore sets for Match Game. I'll be posting them in the order I receive them, and they'll go up against one of my own sets in the order that I created them.

The teacher in me is all about fairness, after all. In the classroom, when things aren't fair, there is whining. Whining is bad. So we have lots of ways to prevent whining. Not that you all would whine. You wouldn't. And now I'm rambling. So let's play!

Our first competitor is Dina, whose set features one of my favorite J.Crew skirts, paired with the very feminine Snowscape Tank by Anthropologie and some great accessories! Thanks, Dina!

Would Emma Wear It? - Budget Cardis

Michelle writes: "I am a huge fan of Glee and of your website. While I adore the fact that you find (to practically a T) most of Emma's wardrobe, I really really appreciated the post you had about more affordable clothes from Target that still channeled the Emma Pillsbury look. I was just looking through what Old Navy had for this spring season, and I think that some cardigans they have would be great for another edition of the affordable version of Emma Pillsbury."

I couldn't agree more, Michelle! I put Michelle's four favorite cardigans together:

Clockwise from top left:
Cropped Rosette Cardigan
Origami Applique Cardigan
Flower Applique Cardigan
Ruffle Neck Cardigan

Best of all, these sweaters come in lots of pretty spring colors and each one is only $26.50!

Thanks, Michelle - you definitely know how to shop Emma's look on a budget!

Channeling Emma - Liz

Liz writes, "My New Year's resolution was to wear one bright color a day and to accessorize -- inspired by Emma P. of course!"

Yellow, inspired by the Pilot episode: Nine West shoes, Leifsdottir skirt, Isaac Mizrahi for Target shirt, Kensie cardigan, H&M necklace

Aqua: Ann Marino shoes, BCBG skirt, Old Navy cardigan, American Apparel t-shirt, vintage giant flower brooch from Etsy similar to the one in "The Rhodes Not Taken"

Does Liz know how to put together an outfit or what? I just love the bright Honeyed Peplum Skirt paired with the softly-colored cardigan. And that enamel flower brooch is fantastic. This is a New Year's resolution I could stick with!

Thanks, Liz, for sharing your style with WWEPW!

Match Game - Black Red and Yellow vs. Very Jackie O

Plug your ears, Tim Gunn. I don't want you to hear me say this out loud.

I love matchy-matchy. I do. I love it. I love outfits with a strict color palette in the same way I love French gardens. Neat. Symmetrical. Precise.

Let's play with this a bit, shall we? One of the new features I'm launching here today is called "Match Game." Hee. Think of it as a Diva-Off, but with Emma's clothes battling it out instead of Kurt and Rachel. I'll put up two looks, and you vote for your favorite!

Of course it won't be very much fun without all of you, so if you'd like to submit an Emma Pillsbury-inspired look for the game, head on over to Polyvore and create a set. Or, make one of your own!

Then, email the link to me at emmapillsbury (at) gmail (dot) com. Please put "Match Game" in the subject title so I know that's what feature you're submitting for. (Yes, I just ended that sentence with a preposition, and YES IT IS BOTHERING ME.)

Come on, you know you want your look to beat up my look on the playground at recess.

Sound fun? Let's play!

Jayma Mays and the Glee Cast at the 2009 Golden Globes

"Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press and Miss Barbra Streisand." -Ryan Murphy

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Glee for winning the 2010 Golden Globe Award for Best Comedy Television Series!

What was everyone wearing? Let's take a look.

Jayma stepped out in a black-and-white Badgley Mischka gown.

Drape a grocery sack on this woman, and she'd still look good.

I especially love the back of the bodice.

Jane Lynch was robbed everywhere but the dress department last night. She looks amazing in olive green.

WOW. Atta girl, Lea. Glad to see she didn't pull the typical, "I'm a tiny young thing, so I'll wear a short, flared dress." Girlfriend was all, "I'm nominated and I AM putting on some Oscar de la Renta. BRING ME SOME CHOPARD!" Love her.

Hi, this is what glamorous looks like. The Grecian goddess look completely works for Dianna. Hair and makeup are perfection.

I cannot tell a lie. I love Jessalyn but I'm not crazy about this dress at all. I have a feeling it was stunning in person. OH, I KNOW. How about I just tag along at the next awards show and see for myself?

Thank you Jenna for wearing some color! There were fewer bright dresses on the red carpet this year, but Jenna looks beautiful in sunny yellow.

Let's not forget the guys!

Very nice, gentlemen. Very nice. I'm loving the pocket squares that are turning up on so many guys this year.

More of the cast:

Amber Riley looks stunning. Dear photographers, you suck for not taking more pictures of this gorgeous girl. Look at her! She's beautiful!

Only Ryan Murphy could get away with that suit. And that pose. J'adore.

Check out this video of the Glee cast, following their win, via The Insider. Jayma is hilarious.
