Would Emma Wear It? - Bow Sweater

Sometimes I look at a top and immediately, it says "Rachel." Like these:

Other times, it's not so simple. Nicki writes:
I saw this adorable cardigan on one of my favourite online stores and immediately wondered, "Would Emma wear it?"
I'll leave it to the experts to decide.

Retro Bow Pattern Cardigan
- £39.00 (about $59 US)

What do you think?

That's a pretty difficult decision! After some thought, I said Rachel because of the cutesy-ness of the bow pattern (Emma's style is cute but not usually cutesy!) and the density of the print.

OR LIKE A SWEATER WITH A SAILBOAT HUH?! :P

I picked Emma. She often has "cutesy" details in her outfits that are not as obvious as Rachel's. The little bows are obvious but not overpowering or too kiddie.

I can't decide. I've looked at this sweater so much that now the bows look like little scissors to me, in which case I think this sweater is best suited to Johnny Depp.

Sweaters that button up are definitely Emma, although the pattern is kind of Rachel.

I choose Emma based on the fact that the sweater has buttons and involves bows, though if the bows were gigantic, I would've let the buttons slide and given it to Rachel.

Actually, on second thought, I'd give it to me. :)

rofl Danielle <333 haha well I don't think we would want to see Emma or Rachel in a Johnny Depp cardi lol. haha your comments just kill me :D

I chose Rachel because only because of the pattern. Like everyone said above Emma is button up, but that pattern just strikes me as Rachel.

I think the colour is way more Rachel, than Emma. If the blue were slightly more subtle, then it would be an Emma for sure.

I love the peach sweater!!
And I vote Emma. For some reason, I think the sweater has more of a mature sweetie pie feel.

Oh my god, I wish they'd do an episode where Emma & Rachel show up in the same thing. Like (and this is dating me) that episode of Full House where it's DJ's first day of high school and she gets laughed at because she has the same ensemble on as some crazy teacher. Except at McKinley they'd be like, "Damn, Rachel, looking fine like Miss P!" ...right? Right?!

Oh & I chose Rachel. And sorry for the rambling. I had birthday shots, that's my excuse!

I like Eliz's idea of an episode where Rachel and Emma show up in the same outfit. Too funny!

This was tough but I chose Emma only because of the small print and buttons. With the right blouse and/or accessories I could totally see Emma wearing this. Of course, I could see Rachel in it too which is what made it so difficult. :)

LOL Eliz!!! I remember that episode! That would be PERFECT if Rachel and Emma wore the same outfit.

Awww...Full House...takes me back....

Has Emma ever worn anything not solid colored other than the Eiffel Tower sweater...this is totally a Rachel fashion choice.

After much deliberation, I had to go with Rachel; I think this dark blue would suit Lea's skin tone more than it would Jayma's.

Also, it may seem random, but on Emma's patterned sweaters, the pattern is always pretty regular. Think of the stripes on the Milly (?) jumper, the lines of little Tour d'Eiffel 's and Mary Poppins'? The placement of the bows in the pattern seems a bit too irregular for Emma.

Maybe I've stared at this cardi too long, too.

I tell a lie. This blue probably would suit Jayma. Come to think of it, a binbag would probably suit Jayma. *shakes fist in comedy villain fashion*

I'd also like to point out some sterling use of a semicolon in my original comment. Every day is an oppurtunity for correct punctuation and grammar.

HEATHER, I love you; I don't know you, but I love you. Semicolons are my favorite punctuation mark! Glad to see they're getting some love.

Wow, I am such a nerd. And now everyone knows it.

This is definitely Emma:

The semicolon is the greatest of the punctuation marks; its frequent usage is one of the reasons I love Jane Eyre so much. Yes, I love a book for its semicolons. For I am Sarah, Queen of Nerds; may all lesser nerds bow before me.

Sarahnargle said...

And I have now realized I used it twice in the last one, and will again now; it is the most useful of them all!

I adore you all.

I am infinitely glad that I have found a community who will accept me for my bizarre love of punctuation marks :B

Anonymous poster -- YES! I clipped that to Polyvore during my last Modcloth binge so that I could use it in a future Emma-inspired set!

Eliz -- I live for random love from Internet strangers :) I mean that in the nicest possible way. Thanks a million.

Okay, people, a few points:
1) I also love punctuation marks, and the correct usage of same.
2) I think the sweater could go either way; I have actually created two sets to show this. You can check them out at http://www.polyvore.com/wwepw_emma_rachel_bow_sweater/set?id=18627631 and http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=18622810&lid=472583
3) Heather, you're totally right about Jayma being able to rock many different colours. Damn her.

That is all. :-)

I voted Emma because it's cardigan, and Rachel usually wears sweaters that are not cardigans.

This illustrates the problem I have right now in trying to pick out this Emma look for myself (getting close to 40). Doing it in a way that is age appropriate. Modcloth has a similar bow sweater now and their age group is probably geared closer to Rachel so I took a pass on it. So I don't think the fashion dept would dress Emma in the bow print sweater and if Rachel can't ever wear a cardigan then neither of them would wear it.

Yes, they did dress Emma in a Forever 21 blouse, but notice how you only saw the collar of that blouse peaking out from under the sweater. I think for the most part they stay away from stores geared for women under 30.

What I love to death is Emma's blue military cardigan, man I wish I had gotten into this sooner before all the stuff I love on her was sold out.

I think they'd skip the bow print as much as I'd really not expect them to to put her in a heart print either, leave that stuff for Rachel. But I could see like a printed blouse like the horse print bow blouse from Leifsdottir or their cat print blouse because these are something a woman can wear more age appropriately and of course work with the solid J Crew cardis. (I ordered them and am anxiously waiting fot them to arrive!)
