Would Emma Wear It? - Back to School

I've been reading loads of shopping and fashion blogs lately and I'm amazed by the amount of clothing people buy! I adore looking at clothes, holding skirts up to blouses, and touching soft sweaters, but 99% of the time, I leave a store empty-handed.

My method for clothes shopping is a terrible one. I don't browse stores, selecting individual pieces here and there when the mood strikes. Right before the start of the school year, I clean out my closet of tattered and torn garments, and shop-til-I-drop for a new wardrobe that will take me through fall and winter. I find two or three things that I like and buy them in every color. Tim Gunn would be disgusted with me.

Spring comes. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's ridiculous, but this has been my modus operandi for the last umpteen years, and Chicago wasn't kidding when they said it's a hard habit to break. Although I don't really think they were talking about shopping in that song.

I need a little shopping practice, so I've been playing around on Polyvore to create a bit of a fantasy work wardrobe, where money is no object and I'm always a size 2. For starters:

I think I might be ready for the real thing!

I love your outfit selections! I think to get out of the habit of buying all your clothing for one season. The best way trying buying only essentials in one go and then go out and browse and then buy selected items to compliment those items. To be honest I don't know how you don't end up buying one piece of clothing here and one there that would be perfect with one or several things you have at home! Good luck for the upcoming shopping season :)

I feel a little light-headed now. I may need to go have a Polyvore fantasy of my own...

Thanks everyone! These were tons of fun to put together. Rachel, the CM sweater is my favorite, too. MUST. WIN. LOTTERY.

I love Me Too shoes (I have a great pair of brown suede one with bows(!) and just a little bit of a wedge), and that gray pleated skirt with the bow at the waist is perfect.
